Paul Adler Optometrist Contact lenses

Contact lenses are a large part of most practices and we are no different. Our extensive experience means that we are able to fit and advise on all available contact lens options. We are not tied to just one contact lens manufacturer.

We now have TruEye avaialble. The world's first silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lens. Unrivalled oxygen, comfort and safety. Great for dry eyes and at a price that will surprise you and are working with new semi-scleral rigid contact lenses. Almost the comfort of soft lenses with the vision of rigid lenses AND loads of oxygen too.

Have you thought about contacts?

There has never been a better time to wear contact lenses. New lens designs and materials are available and modern lenses are more comfortable and affordable than ever before. Often contact lenses cost less than a pair of glasses.

Freedom

Contact lenses give you the freedom to see all around without annoying rims of spectacle frames spoiling the view. Many people feel that they are more natural and comfortable wearing contact lenses.

No risk trials

If you’ve thought about lenses but wondered if you are suitable, now is the time to find out. At your first appointment we will assess your suitability for lenses and explain your options. If there is a problem that may mean less than 100% success we will tell you about it and explain the consequences. It may be that you need a special lens. We will explain why and clearly tell you how much it will cost.

Your first experience of lens wear will be as soon as possible. We will demonstrate how amazingly comfortable they can be. Where possible we will let you take some home to try before you commit yourself to going ahead. The only cost will be the contact lens assessment and fitting fee.

Choosing the right type of lenses

Do not worry about making a decision. We will ensure that your needs are met and that the best lens for those needs are used. Of course, there are lots of options that will be explained. You can opt for tinted lenses to change your appearance, Ultra Violet filter lenses for maximum protection, bifocals or varifocal lenses, disposable and regular lenses.

Soft lenses

These are the most popular because they are so comfortable to wear. They are easy to adapt to and gentle on your eyes. They do however, need to be replaced more frequently. Modern lenses allow extended wear and are available for people with astigmatism (an irregular shaped eye) and bifocal wearers. There are even daily disposable bifocals and daily disposable lenses for people with astigmatism. We also have a great range of coloured contact lenses for every day or the occasional special night out.

Silicone Hydrogel Lenses

The newest of the soft lens family and possibly the most advanced. These lenses feel like a soft lens, and behave like a soft lens but allow as much oxygen to get to the eye as some of the very best Gas Permeable lenses. As well as being used for people who have had problems, they are great for extended wear up to a month. These lenses are set to re-write the rules on soft lens performance. As time goes by, there are an increasing number of lenses on the market. We now even have a Daily Disposable Silicone Hydrogel lens providing best oxygen and maximum convenience.  Each of these lenses have slightly different properties and we will advise you on which will be best and why. We even have lenses for astigmatism from the leading manufacturers including Bausch and Lomb and Johnson and Johnson, makers of the Acuvue® lens brand. Call us now for more information.

Gas Permeable Lenses

These are recommended if your eyes need extra oxygen, or if you have a lot of astigmatism. They do take a little longer to get used to, but they last a lot longer than soft lenses. Bifocals and multi-focal lenses are also available.

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses (RGP)

The problem with old fashioned hard lenses were that they offered poor comfort and manufacturing methods were crude. Modern lenses allow loads of oxygen through to the eye and are far more comfortable and accurate. We can make lenses for astigmatism, varifocals and bifocals and success rates are far higher than they were. Modern materials are much more comfortable and the advantages of GP lenses are improved vision. Better contrast and longer lasting lenses. Ask for more details and be warned - this lens type is back and we will see more of them in the future.

Orthokeratology lenses

These are a fantastic new lens modality which moulds the cornea whilst you sleep. When you wake, the lenses are removed and you can see as if you had perfect vision all day. Like Laser refractive surgery without the surgery. Suitable for short-sighted people with moderate astigmatism. Our new topographers will map the shape of your eye and helped by sophsticated software, we can tailor design and make the perfect lens you. Not only that, they are made in the UK.

Looking after your lenses

Unless you wear daily disposable lenses, you will need to clean and disinfect your contacts to ensure both the lenses and your eyes stay in good condition. The type of care system you use depends on the type of lenses you have and how they are worn. We will make sure you understand what to do before you take your lenses home.

Worried about getting the lenses in and out?

You needn't be. Our staff will spend as much time as you need to ensure you are confident and safe in handling your lenses. If you have worn lenses before and struggled - please give us a call. We will be glad to help.
